Prof. Francesco Lo-Coco from Italy passed away on March 3, 2019. Whole hematology world has lost an empire, a great teacher, a friend, and a great scientist. Dr. Lo-Coco is a well-known name in the field of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APML). His work includes the diagnosis and management of acute leukemia, especially APML. People associated in the field of leukemia diagnosis and treatments are aware of his immense contribution in the APML specifically.

He was one of the key persons of Italian hematology. He was in core member of many journals. Dr. F. Lo-Coco received many national and international awards to his name, such as Jose Carreras Award in 2018, from the European Hematology Association. Few awards from my country India is like S. Goshe Memorial Oration, Institute of Hematology, Medical College, Kolkata, India, in 2009 and Tata Memorial Center Oration, Mumbai, India, in 2015. He was a pioneer in the treatment of APML. He has published many research articles, guidelines, and novel works in the esteemed hematology journals. He was in the editorial board of world-renowned journals such as JCO, Leukemia, and Haematologica.

Like me, I hope everyone agree that he was a kind person who always inspires students, scientists, and clinicians all over the world to contribute in the field of leukemia to discover the hidden biology of APML. I feel lucky enough to be in his touch for difficult APML cases. We have lost a great teacher, friend, family, and a great scientist. He was “king of APML”. We lived in the golden era of APML. However, Sir, please come again, Promyelocyte of APML is waiting for you to discover more. We all miss you. Rest in peace. You have saved many lives on this earth with such a deadly medical case if not diagnosed on time.

He was very humble, down to earth person. I have approached him once regarding novel cytogenetic result of an adult APML case. He replied to my email with great encouragement. I hope that many of us have been benefitted in the form of science. He was the person who inspire others. Believe me truly, not only his family but also hematology world has lost a great person, who was leading the treatment of APML. Promyelocytes of earth are missing you.
